Dean, What a stunning lamp. The shade is unbelievable. Well, it is believable because I can see it but you get what I mean. I have one of these lamps but I was never convinced the black colour was correct. Now, I can look for a shade holder for it and be confident it isn't a lamp that had a paint job by a previous owner.
Thanks, I'll try that. I think mine has been converted to a Coleman Q70 burner, and perhaps stripped of its paint or nickel. Not sure if it is the same model as yours. Regardless, I sure like it!
Dean I think your lamp is a Powerlight 404 Louis XV or just maybe 403 Empire. The shade is a correct Kaufman "Hexagon Dome". Carl your lamp is a Powerlight 404 Louis XIV. ::Neil::
Hi all The tank on Carl’s lamp seems to me to have more curves to it? The ones in the pictures above and the gallery look a bit ‘pork pie-ish’ Just saying?
@Dean D you can post that one to me any time you like. What an absolute beauty! Want to swap it for a few Tilley TL10s?
Yes it is more like an AGM style tank. I have seen two the same with collectors in the US. The tank should have a stamp in the base plate with "The Powerlight Co. New York" and a list of patent dates. Or with "A.G.Kaufman MFG Co. N.Y." and a list of patent numbers. Those patents can give some idea of manufacture date. The two I know of have faint markings and I can't read the numbers or dates but it is a short list so I assume this tank style is earlier. The one full catalogue we have is about 1911/12 which shows no table lamps and all the rest of the paper I have seems to be about 1915 to 1917 so I guess this style tank is about 1912 to 1914. Be interesting to see an image of the base plate stamp in Carl's lamp. ::Neil::
