    My first Australian lamp! This stunning Kayen came my way from Brian in Australia. All I have to do is look at it, Brian has done his usual flawless fettle.
    It will get lit now and then and not be too much of a shelf queen. Repro globe from Base Camp.

    No, not plated. Just polished to perfection by Brian!

    That's nice! :)...

    ..I do like those speckled tops...They seem to be an Antipodean speciality?

    They crop up on other lanterns as well?

    Thanks for sharing @BigStevie

    @podbros

    As you can imagine, I’m well chuffed.

    Not sure about the speckled hoods, maybe the Australian members can comment. I’m still on a learning curve with these lamps.

    @Buggerlugs So, any more Aussie lamps with speckled hoods?

    Thanks folks. I’ve been trying to add something to the Tilleys and Vapalux/Bialaddin lamps.
    I do like this Kayen, probably because it’s so Tilley!

    Speckled enamel seems to be an Aussie thing: Kayen lantern hoods, Aladdin stoves, Coleman irons (iirc) and many other liquid fuel lamps and stoves.

    I must say that Buggerlugs is a team, without my son Michael, I would not be able to spray like he can, and get that finish.
    Also he taught me to polish as well, and lots of other ideas and some of the tools that we needed to do this type of work.
    It was also his idea to join this forum, so realistically i will thank him publicly, thanks my son i love you, and i will get into trouble for saying that but I don't mind its worth it.

    Stevie, it is a very lucky find, it really is a wonderful lamp and very much like a long PL53. You deserve it.

    @Cesar

    The Kayen AP2 is a copy of the Tilley EX100.

    Cheers

    What about a reflector Stevie, what are the chances of you finding one for your lamp I wonder?

    The Tilley reflector and the Kayen reflectors are compatible.

    I believe its hard to tell the difference, but I think the Kayen one's are just a little smaller in diameter, otherwise it's hard for me to tell.

    @BigStevie

    I have a few...

    But they will remain in Australia, because that is their cultural heritage.

    @Tony Press

    Were Kayen ever exported, or were they just a home market product?

    I have to ask, do you believe the Kayen lamp sent to me is a loss of Australian cultural heritage? You’re making me feel guilty Tony!!!

    I’ll happily keep sending UK Tilley lamps and parts to others around the world if they want or need them. The mates I’ve made from these transactions outweighs any other considerations.

    @Buggerlugs

    Kayen were exported to the Pacific islands (by Kopsen, mainly) and to PNG.

    Cheers

    Now that's something I havn't seen before. It is a Primus 523 tank and burner setup, but what is the rest?

    Well it's definitely most of a Primus 523, but the frame is a mystery. Do you know where it comes from? The windshields look a bit 'adapted' as well.

    I bought it from an auction in Scotland about 3 years ago, here's one of the windshields IMG_0337.JPG IMG_0338.JPG
