Thanks @Sedgman @Anthony and all the others that attended. It was a great weekend(or week for me). I will post some photos later as I'm still on the road home. Camped for the night on the Murray River near Echuca.
Looks like I missed a great time, Unfortunately I had a previous engagement. Lots of lamps, people with great knowledge and collector's all in one.
@Jean J If you look through this you can do some matching… https://classicpressurelamps.com/threads/gloria-light-co-chicago-1914-catalogue.15241/ Cheers Tony
What happens when Big Bertha is pointing at the sun and my hand reaches the focal point of the reflector? You burn the skin and end up with a blister. @Paul Aslanides supplying some background music. @Anthony appreciating the output of his Red Ball.
a lot of good stuff on show and I would have liked to call in just for a look see, but I was elsewhere for the weekend
A good show of old style illumination. Were all the Gloria hollow wire fittings yours @Tony Press or did others contribute ?
Not all mine, @Henry Plews. I took only the No. 6 and small number of others most of which were in parts ready for fettling. The line up on the long wire in front of the dam is @Anthony’s. Now that I’ve got the No. 6 running, I’ve a bit of a design problem to work out how to fit a globe, as finding an original (huge) No. 6 globe is impossible. After that I’ve a No. 10; a No. 20 bracket; and most of the important parts of a No. 40 to work through. See here: Then I’ll dig into the big hollow wire box and see what else is there. Cheers Tony
Hi fellas, I've had a few weeks to settle back in. id have to say the Latterners meet was quite humbling for me, the fellas ive corresponded with over the years and finally meeting them all face to face was huge for me, i could see the one thing we all had in common was not only the lamps, lanterns heaters, torches , but the big grins we all may have different fields but we are all Lanterners. thank you so much for the host site @Anthony Staffishire Reef. it is isolated it was hot and humid, it was camping out and patrina and i loved it. it was great to see big bertha in action, Ian's homemade version of a sc56 stove, Tony's gloria and all the others who followed a bit of a list, to see lamps and lanterns of all sorts of country and brands was a treat, the fellas all very chuffed with what they bought to show and tell. it was hot and the fire ban was on so we didnt get to light alot but the show and tell was great. @Anthony @Tony Press @Sedgman @Paul Aslanides @ROBBO55 @kero-scene and other special guests thank you for a great weekend i should have taken more pictures but i was distracted by more lanterns and stories, so here are my pictures with a discription if possible big bertha was awsome, the mantle is about 5inches in diameter, 5-800 candle power. when burnt in the mantle sa as a bit bigger than a squash ball. It projected the light more than 200m down the valley although this picture is across from the dam. very cool Anthony's very cool hollow wires 100 years old some of them the only lonely lantern i lit being fire ban day, a Ditmar 541 in action, the fellas some had heard of them but never seen one close up, A tilley CS56 stove in the fore ground. Gloria 400 hanging although the same lantern but i different combinations, other varieties of different lamps and lanterns. my Radiolite gravity feed methylated spirit lamp. thank you for your help with this uncommon lamp, 1 of possible 3 known to exist. thank you to everyone who came to have a look, others bought other interesting wick lamps that were used before the turn of last century.
I couldn't post all my pictures, but I put them on a separate post.a big thank you to all these fellas, it was a terrific weekend and as i mentioned before just look at the smiles it says it all. may our maker watch over us all. @Anthony @Tony Press @Paul Aslanides @ROBBO55 @kero-scene @Sedgman (thank you Ian for starting the light for us all to gathher)and a special guest Burnie
Looks like a great meet you all had thanks for sharing all the pictures great lamps on show Cheers pete
@Anthony thank you. Re the Gloria No. 21, £1 extra when supplied as a system light !? That was a considerable expense back in those days. Thanks for including the technical drawing for the Pearl Light. I did think that the wheel was for a cleaning needle but couldn't visualize how it functioned.
@Henry Plews Some slightly more detailed photos of the lamps on the wire: Night view with light behind the camera. Cheers Tony
