So with my return to work looming, I decided at the weekend to finally light a lockdown lamp. Seeing as I've never lit an Optimus 930 and I had one lying around I thought what better time. Didn't wait until after dark, but still had the necessary drink.:D

 John Smith's in a Guinness glass? - isn't that against the law? ;)

Has it got black mantle disease yet... :D

It was either the Guinness glass or the Stella one. I suppose I could have had a Boddingtons in the correct glass or I could have even had a Guinness. Maybe tomorrow sadly I've committed the say crime today. Unless I don't stop at one.:-k

Thanks @paparazi it's certainly nice on these evenings to sit out with a drink and a lamp. I'm just too lazy, so normally it's just the drink.

Oh and I forgot David, it ran flawlessly for an hour or two without black mantle. It did seem to loose pressure at one point but then I haven't changed any seals so what can I expect.:lol:

Better off with the drink... I have a 930 and I always managed to be bitten in the a$$ by this lantern! Oh well!

That 930 is a thing of beauty! I'd try to get one for my collection but they go for silly Mone nowadays.

Keep looking, they turn up at the right price occasionally. I can't remember how much this one was but I know my better one was 40 quid.

You're deserving of those beers! Now, if the lantern starts to develop a black mantle....

Nice job on the 930, I've one good one and one "heap" that both require attention. Must get on them. Guinness looks nice too!

@ColinG they do occasionally pop up on the bay of evil at a reasonable price.

That is a very nice photo of the Optimus lamp and the John Smiths ale , I did not realize the size of this
lamp I imagined them to be larger but hey ho its a great photo ..John Smiths ale now brewed by the
Scottish and Newcastle brewery Co, one side of the River Wharfe and Samuel Smiths brewery nearby

I have a Tilley 106 and they're beautiful lamps. With a glass of ale in the garden, what could be better!
