    Hello everbody,

    my name ist guenter and since one year i've got the new passion kerosene pressure lanterns. I live in Hamburg.
    I few weeks ago i've bought a used Austramax 3/300. The pump bottom valve was not mounted. Full of hope i've tried to order the missing part in australia. But unfortunately unsuccessful. Maybe the value of my order was to small?
    So, i decided to build an adapter to use existing Petromax pump bottom valve. For this reason i'am looking for the size of the thread into to pump pipe! May some member give me this important information?

    best regards from Hamburg

    Guenter

    @Guenter

    Would you like me to send you an Austramax non-return valve (NRV)?

    Can you post a photograph of your Austramax?

    Cheers

    Tony

    Please post a picture of your lamp I removed one to show a picture of , then checked against an earlier model lamp and they are different enough in design to possibly be 'not interchangeable' ?

    As discussed, I will go through my spares on a Sunday.

    Thanks for the photo; it’s the new type.

    Guenter Hang on ! Before you modify anything - the Austramax valve is a common size thread. Valves easily obtained here. Two types, but both will fit any Austramax kerosene lantern. The old type is of the common barrel type using a spring-loaded pip; the new one is shorter and works by an O ring sealing on its face. Both have the same thread, and both use the same lead washer.

    New jet $13.50 AU from T.W.Sands Jet thread is 0.183” = 3/16” x 32 BSC 60*
    Burner Thread 9/16 x 26 tpi 55*
    NRV valve 3/8" x 26 tpi 55* Standard Brass Thread.

    That's a jolly good lantern you have there.

    The one I got out was the same late model as yours but has slightly earlier metal pressure release screw Pump non return valve is the screw with "O" ring type, appeared to be sealant paint (no washer) on mount

    I would think a couple of turns of (PTFE)
    Teflon tape would do for a washer Austramax 3-300 Late model NRV.jpg

    Austramax NRV.jpg Graham P Graham - With respect, may I point out that a few turns of tape around the thread won't do. That screw is well made - it has a thread 'runout' machined under the head, so that the inner face of the head will butt up hard against the face at the bottom of the pump tube, and not have the screw threadbound with a gap left between the end of the thread and the shoulder of the screw.
    If PTFE tape must be used, the trick is to cut a length, say 3, 4 inches, lay it flat on a clean surface and roll it across its length, with the palm of the hand, to create a 'string', or cord, which can then be wrapped around the runout groove. I've tried it, and in this application it doesn't work. So when you go to remove the nrv, the torn pieces of tape, small slivers of it, can disappear into the fount, with the potential of blocking the pickup tube etc.
    The lead washer used here is approx. 13 x 9.40 m/m and is a tight fit over the threads - it has to be screwed on until it drops free in the groove.
    Here's a pic of the old and the new valve, as appears above.

    @Guenter

    Would you like one of the older NRVs or one of the newer ones? The older ones are easier to work on.

    Hello Tony, thank you so much for searching "my" spare part!
    If it is ok for you, i would decide me for the one wich is simular to the petromax NRV. Petromax's NRV is looking like the NRV in the picture above.
    I think it is the older one! I'am so happy, that i can light my Austramax in the future!!

    But now we have to find a way to bring the NRV to germany..... and please tell me, what do i have to pay?
