Optimus 210

    This is an example of the Optimus 210. It is basically the 200 lantern with a wooden handle in the middle. This lamp was then offered with an enamell shade with fringe and was then called the 210 or with a parchment shade and then it became the 209.

    First introduced around the mid 1930s the 210 disappears from the model range during the 1940s . Most likely beaded fringes were out of fashion by then.

    Beautiful lamp!
    Can you show us how the fringes are fixed in the lampshade
    this way of doing is very pretty and I would like to install such a fringe on one of my lamps

    Hi Nils what a real beautiful lamp,i love the look of the enamelled hood and fringes making it typicaly Art Deco my favourite period in design

    Michel: The beads are sewn onto a strip of material which is doubled over to make a tube. A brass wire is passed through this tube and this then fits into the curled up edge of the shade. Hopefully you get the idea from this picture.

    Sorry Jeff, it's the only one I've got. Actually it's the only original Optimus bead fringe I've ever seen. I suspect they didn't sell many and what they did hasn't survived.
