I assume this is a rather battered Optimus 252.

Got a bit of work to do on this one. Air release screw has broken off in the cap. Vapourizer has been repaired but obviously not completely

Even though it looks a bit tired, that was a nice find. It looks to be an early one too.

The vaporiser will have to be repaired as they are a bit longer than the standard 200 item. The globe is going to be the tricky bit.

Gratz James. Battered or not. It is there, it works and that is what counts.

The leak in the vapourizer didn't show up during a dunk test, only when the lamp was running. Turns out it was a small crack which must open up when the brass is hot.

I brazed the crack up and gave the lamp a good clean and it is running well

There's an eBay seller in Korea selling the glass (reproduction?) but it's rather expensive so I think I will do without for the time being.

Quite a bit of difference there. A big improvement.

I've had one of these vaporisers with a crack as well. Mine was in the preston loop facing the mantle. Also an early variant. Maybe they had a bad batch of raw material at one point.

Can I get a replacement air release screw for it? If so I might try to get the broken stub out.
