Do you esteemed Gentlemen have any suggestions on a replacement glass for a Optimus 300 Fuel Gauge glass? The lantern won't hold pressure, it escapes via the cracked glass.
I found some flat watch glasses on the Bay of Evil for a similar job. Curved glasses are also available. Tony
Is it the case then that a pressure seal depends on an intact glass sealed to the gauge casing? Sealed to the casing with what? I’ve only experience of pressure gauges on stoves and lanterns and a fuel level gauge on a Tilley FL6, where the ‘sender’ unit in the tank transmits movement to the gauge needle by magnetism. John
I have used glasses from the ceramic holders of old fuses, as seen in this post on the same topic. I doubt that you had the same standard in the UK as we did with these, so probably you don't had this kind or size of the part. Just mention it in case you have a similar type.
Here is a new glass for the Optimus on the bay of evil. Link to post where this topic was covered answers my question, thanks. So the glass has to be provided with seals, unlike on pressure gauges. Nils said:
Gentlemen, thank you for your responses. Very helpful as ever. @Norman thanks for the link, I'd have struggled to find that. Ordered one last night. We will see how we get on.
This's a great idea. Didn't cross my mind since I wasn't looking for a glass. In general, we don't use those here in the public (British Standard by tradition, adapted to local standards). However, they're commonly used in my workplace(plant), which is mostly German machineries and construction according to other European standards(DIN VDE, EN, etc).. Great tip off.
@Levi Tomey I buy heaps of stuff on the Bay of Evil. I use the term for two reasons: One, it’s a difficult place to have “issues” resolved in; and Two, I don’t want the commercial name to appear in my posts. Tony
If you don't get the one you ordered, just contact me. I have a number for spare. The gasket as well. It is for free. Bo
@Bo Ryman Thank you, that is a very kind offer. At the moment the package tracking shows it is heading towards the UK, so all well.
