What is the most cost effective way people get auction lots sent to them? I have been given a quote of over £80 to collect, pack and post a lamp from an auction house in Suffolk and send it to Scotland.
If the sender won't pack then you're at the mercy of the packer. How much would you charge to go and collect and spend on materials, fuel, time, post-office charges, make a reasonable profit yourself, etc etc, to send a lamp? Alec.
Hi Stuart, It does depend a lot on the auction house.. some will help and are reasonable, some don’t offer a service at all, whilst most will post at least a Jiffy bag for royal mail prices + a small fee. Folks have posted on here before asking for help with collecting so maybe there is someone in the area who could help? regards, pb
I appreciate that firms have to make a profit and I’m happy to support smaller local businesses when I can, but the quote in question just seemed rather high to me and was significantly more than the last time I used this type of service.
The vintage wireless forum has a sub section for offers and requests for equipment transport. Maybe an idea here?
If anyone here sends regularly to Australia I’m looking for some advice about sending a high value item. Is there a Courier who will give full insurance cover and not cost the earth?
@Jean J I’m getting some delicate gear sent to me from the UK. It should arrive soon. I’ll let you know of its state when it arrives, and the carrier it came with. I think, previous to this shipment, everything I’ve been sent from UK has been via British Mail and always arrived promptly and in good fettle. Cheers Tony
