Hello! Petromax K822 (Aladdin). I do not know history. It was manufactured between the years 1939-1940. Aladdin label indicates the manufacturing of the Aladdin, in a short time. Other parts of the show. And seek advice from you. With respect. Thanks.
Hi Tony, gratulation, nice lamp Aladdin was the exporting name for Petromax at UK Pls. look at the brass bottom, perhaps you can find the date of manufacturing scratched inside with a needle.
This lamp was not sold from the UK. Alladin UK sold only a small range of Petromax lamps. 821, 826, 827, 828, 882 and 900. The only table lamp was 882. Also they were marked differently. They all have a label on the collar with both Aladdin and Petromax logos. I think there may be one or two in the galleries as well which show the labels for the UK Aladdin-Petromax. Here are two examples of Aladdin Petromax labels. This lamp has only Aladdin on the collar label. I am pretty sure this would have been sold from an Aladdin office in continental Europe. We know there were Aladdin operations in France and Hungary. Either of those might have sold this lamp but also I wonder if there was ever a German based Aladdin office/factory? I have not yet been able to confirm this but given Aladdin were pretty agressive with world wide sales surely they did not ignore the German market? ::Neil::
Hi Neil. I find the relevance of two lamps. One is ... (Petromax 900) Petromax Aladdin 900 Little Baby And(Petromax K822). This two lamps may be made from the same place. Reference data, which can be difficult. Makes it attractive in the search. Thanks.
Well they are both 1940s or early 1950s. Not sure exactly when Petromax started to use that plastic control but I guess around 1939 and the EG logo dates from before 1953. The blue Aladdin Petromax label above is from a model 900 found in the UK and that has the plastic control so has to date from about 1939 the last year those were sold. So these Aladdin examples are either from Berlin 1939 to 1949 or early production from Graetz KG in Altena from around 1950 to 1953 ish. However I am not aware that Altena ever made model 822 so that probably means this is a 1930 or 1940s lamp. So that means we know where it was made which is Berlin but in this case it is more important to know where it was sold from and that is where I have to say I just don't know. ::Neil::
