Picked this little blow lamp up at a antique shop this morning and was curious if anyone had any information about it. Would the fuel be alcohol or petrol?
Thanks Tony I was going to go out to the garage and test it but it's -16 out so it will have to wait. Thomas
I would be inclined to replace the filler cap seal first. Chances are it has gone hard and it could leak petrol/gasoline fumes which are quite flammable. Nice find btw. It's not often you find a complete one with the flame tube.
Finally made it out to the shop, the solder blob on the side turned out to be a bad repair of stress crack. Might try tig welding it if I can find some 1/16" tungsten if not i will hard solder it.
I file the high point of the solder until I'm starting to break through at the edges then wrap 400 emery cloth around the fine and finish with that.
@Thomas I have one of these. It isn’t very powerful, but useful for some small jobs. I had to make the flame shroud for mine. Cheers Tony
It must be a great feeling of satisfaction when you got the blowlamp back in working condition. Very neat soldering and finishing.
A good job but if that is a solder repair to a petrol blowlamp I suggest you do your first trials outside, I recently overhauled a primus 71 stove, ie a petrol stove, I call it my miniature volcano, lighting it can be quite exciting.
Hello Tony! Please help me! I bought such a soldering lamp this weekend. You don't have a flame tube. You wrote that you have already made a flame tube. Please describe its dimensions. Have a nice day! Thanks. Csaba from Hungary
I posted the dimensions of this little torch back at CCS many years ago. I'll attach the same picture below, and the entire topic is found here.
They are a great little blow torch, I run mine on shellite (Coleman fuel). Good for small delicate jobs and think jewellers in non electric power areas would have used them. Glad yours was repaired.
