I'm sure some of you saw this on online and I was licky enough to be the one to pick it up. I have dismantled and i'm in the process of de rusting from the cowling and other parts. I was amazed to see the date on the back of the glass lense when I removed it so it can be dated fairly accurately I would say. I'm missing the air intake valve on one side and the reflector has a small crack but I don't think it will matter too much. Here's a few photo's anyway. Astro.
Hi ! Its looking good ! So what is the date ? Does it have " Parson's Optical , Newcastle , UK " printed on the back ! mick
Good win Astro my power was off and I forgot what was finishing so didn't get another bid good luck with restoration . Graham
Great stuff, Astroboy! Parkes will be a better place with that lighting the sky (within reason, of course). Happy fetltling.
Nice one this astroboy see yours has the fixed mirror? On the mirror back picture are those small pieces of old tilley paper brochures that are tucked in the rim. Mine was like that and I thought it was a bit weird at the time even so I left them there cheers pete
I reckon you did right to leave them there, Pete - they look like packing pieces to me, maybe to cushion impacts on the rear of the casing or to counter expansion. I think they were definitely put there for a reason. Excellent collection of 'mantiques' there, Astroboy...
yes something like that dave must be, best left in place. I have only just seen this post and was surprised this one was the same behind the mirror cheers pete
