This is my first post on this forum. Hope I got the right thread for it. :)

A friend gave me this beauty from a second hand store. Cheap and in great condition! :)

It works as well as can be expected, except for a tiny leak in the non return valve for the pump. Give it some time and it will push the plunger all the way out. :/

Even with the right tools and replacement valve on hand I'm stuck and dare not proceed with more force.

The valve can be unscrewed and the slight jump of the last tread being wound "too far" is evident through the handle. Still it won't come out! With a thin wire the tool-addition seen below was made. It's illustrated with a replacement valve, obviously. The point is to let the loop catch on the lip of the valve and lock it there by tension.

In trying it I think it successfuly hooked the valve, but it still won't come out. Turning or pulling does nothing. Even pulling hard is yielding no result, so I stopped.

My question is this: am I missing something? Should I just yank on it and hope it sorts itself out? :s

Shaking it sometimes gets it out... Welcome to the forum

I'm thinking this one is a hard case. In the extreme it is de-solder, remove, fix and replace the pump tube.

There are threads on here about doing that on other similar lamps. It looks bad before you start..but it can come out well.

A shallow-tapered spike (ice pick here) jammed firmly (but not destructively so!) into the NRV’s air inlet hole works for me.

    Thanks!
Shaking, wiggling, turning it upside down... All been done. It feels like something is holding it from the interior.
    Thanks! :)
I hope it won't come to that. :s I'll have a search for those threads though!
+1 for the application of force, then. ;)

Do you jam it in there to get hold of it firmly enough to yank it out?

It should just pull out cleanly.
Maybe it is split or built up with rubbish, but that wire looped around the NRV should be enough to pull/twist it out.

    Interesting conundrum :-k

Yes. It’s never failed to remove an unscrewed, but stuck, NRV and has worked for all I’ve recommended it to - primarily on CCS, where the most recent user of the tip said,
    and added this photo.

I have also tried wire etc with some not coming out easily. I will definitely try the ice pick method next time.

Thanks for your insights. The NRV came out with some more violence and jiggling. IMG_20230518_131415~4.jpg
I guess it was just tight tolerances keeping it in there. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it besides being seriously blackened.

Sometimes all you need is perserverance - and assurance that you are not going mad
