I found this hanging lamp at a fleamarket some weeks ago. I only collect lanterns, but I couldn't leave this one behind at the market. The lamp is not complete, it's missing the reflector and the globe. But it is in good condition and only needed a very good cleaning. The problem is, I can find no information of this lamp on the internet. Only on the pressure gauge I found the brand name "Succes". Succes lamps are made by Guenet&Abbat in Paris, but that is the only information I can find. I hope that someone here has more information, and maybe can tell me what age it is. Here are some photo's of the lamp, before and after cleaning. The tank has been painted, because the original paint was to bad.
That’s a great find and a wonderful fettling project. I’ve yet to see / find one of these in the wild. Is there going to be a lighting? Cheers Pete
This is Success model 114 bis. 800cp kero lamp from the early to mid 1920s. I don't know how long it was in production but it is listed in a 1925 catalogue but not in the 1926 issue. The style suggests maybe as early as 1910-1912 but as I have no paper showing it from before 1925 I can't date it any better than that. ::Neil::
Yes it certainly had a reflector and a big globe What a nice find :-) I have no paper before 1926 the Succès history : https://weblampesapression.wixsite.com/lampes/copie-de-france-bre-1
Congrats Johan to a fine and rare lamp! Here´s a catalogue image. Unfortunately I can´t date it! /Conny
Many thanks for all the replies!! Now I can start thinking about how to place a mantle and making some kind of adapter to pressurize the tank with an bicycle pump. In the pictures I can see what kind of reflector and globe this lamp is missing. Maybe it is possible to make one. Wim I don't know what part that is, but it is not on mine. As you can see, there is a little door, and there are no attachment points where somthing else has been. The little door on my lamp looks original, maybe is there a little difference in earlier and later models.
