Quick question folks..... I'm checking over a Hipolito 500 I picked up recently. The needle has snapped off the rod. (The rod moves up and down normally. Can I still fire it up without the needle? I will order one from the Base Camp on Monday. Obviously I would go easy on the pressure for this test? Just wondering......
I would check the jet to see if the broken cleaning wire is still in there. If you do test it, as soon as any carbon reaches the jet the light will fade and then go out.
Jeff, I got the wire out as it was jammed in the tiny nozzle, so no problem there. I fired it up successfully by just using the pump, but I did notice a lot of clean flame surrounding the mantle as though it was getting through. I didn't pump to full pressure just in case, but I'll tell You this......My retinas are still imprinted with the light....It's a bright one!
Yes. The sole purpose of the needle is to clean the jet should the need arise, your lantern will work perfectly well without it until such time as the jet becomes either partially or wholly blocked with carbon. For how long did you let the lantern burn ? I've noticed this phenomenon regularly and find that it disappears once the lamp has got fully up to temperature. It's up to you of course but if you're going to order a new needle, you might like to think about ordering a new jet as well. Even if the lamp doesn't need it now, there's no harm in having one in the spares box for when it does.
Cheers Henry, I'll be ordering a few things for my other lamps, so yes might just do that! I ran the lamp for 15 mins and the flame thing lessened, but it was new mantle as well!
@Johnny19 If you are familiar with hard soldering, You can repair the Hipolito 500cp needle with an 0,19mm acupunkture needle.
