Here I have what I believe to be a tilley AL8 it has steel tank with Tilley valve ,Reflector stamped Tilley Radiator Hendon Eng, in riveted carry frame. Pump body thread & Knurling with no name is steel, nrv and end is brass. Looks to be speculum under coat silver spray paint. What is the correct finish for these?
Hello, in my opinion, this is a WW2., AL.,8, the steel tank and part steel pump are from that period. The heat deflector which fits below the wooden handle is missing. For more information on this lamp, check out page 49 of the Tilley book. Great find! Jeff.
Well Jeff can you tell me if its a AL8 should it have the wire cage/guard fitted ? I would like to know please as I've seen models with and without this addition, Thanks. Al
Hello AL, the trackwork lamps which are fitted with the EX hood as this one is, should have a wire to hold the 182 globe, like the EX-100. The later trackwork lamps were fitted with the CH1 hood and a protective wire cage. Jeff.
If I remember correctly, there's a hook on one side of hood and the wire hangs between this and one of the air intakes on the other side...
