Hi friends I will need your help to identify this lamp. I been looking for information of this lamp with this tank. My first guess was a PL53 or 52 with a ML96 tank but I never see a PL53 or PL52 with ML96 tank. I know the gallery is wrong. What will be the correct gallery or top ventilator for this lamp? Please any help identify this lamp will be appreciated. thank you ///Fernando
Hi Henry The tank is the same but it doesn’t have the extension for the control valve and the hanger is different. ///Fernando
@Mendoza603 The handle you have is appropriate. I think tank may have been the style of handle used when these lamps were placed on railway station lamp posts. Where did you find that lamp? Tony
Very interesting lamp, has styling cues of the EX93, combined with PL53 bails. It would probably had a 449 hood Have you any of its history? Alec.
@Rangie In the link that Henry posted above is a photo of a EX93 from an Australian book on railway lighting. The photo depicts a EX93 in a railway station standard lamp case. I think it would have to have been fitted with a folding bail like the PL53 to fit in that space. Cheers Tony
@Mendoza603 .. Interesting find.. it has an early pump so have a look at the depth of the control tap thread to see whether it would take an early XN tap.. (they had a longer body) cheers
Hi Alec No I never see one of this lamp before. I see the EX is have a similar design but with a different hanger and extension on the control valve. litter different. thank you ///Fernando
How strange. There were no images with the original post when I posted the link to the EX93 in the gallery.
Hi Tony I hope somebody here have the same lamp and they can show it. That way I will find out what this lamp is missing or what model is. ///Fernando
Hi my friend You are correct Have and early pump but the controls valve is the correct one. This lamp is not design to use the early control valve. Is not deep enough to use the early control valve. ///Fernando
The lamp is in perfect condition The tank is also excellent no dent. I will love to find the correct model and the correct top for it. I can get this lamp working in minutes. All I have to do is replace the Gasket seals. ///Fernando
Fernando Your lamp is an EX93. As far as I can tell from the few examples and photos I’ve seen, they are variable in so far as: 1. The tank may be XN or EX; 2. The control cock may be XN or GF on the XN tank; 3. The tank may have a riser to the control cock or it may not; and 4. The PL bail (handle) or EX bail (fixed handle) can be fitted. The correct gallery is Tilley No. 499 with 182 teardrop globe, but they were still being used in Victoria (Australia) in the railways after WWII so would have used the 182 “onion” globe. When I get a chance I’ll dig out some historic photos. Best regards Tony
Hi Tony I will appreciate if you can please post some pictures when you have a chance. For future information. thank you ///Fernando
Hi Tony Can you please show me pictures of the No.499 gallery. I will appreciate thank you ///Fernando
