Tilley FL6

So today I managed to get one of my floodlights working, it needs a new reflector as the one fitted has been polished to death

 

@Darren Holt Prior to light-up, an untarnished reflector is obvious enough side-by-side with one that is.




In use, maybe less obvious - unless you’re staring it full in the face!

I think mine is a lot more tarnished than yours, I see Base Camp sell them for £50

 

Reasonable I’d say, £’s per candlepower!

 

Plus mine seems to be more of an orange glow, it’s not as easy to blip the control cock on the FL6, I’ve already lost skin off my knuckles

 

You’re referring to the intensity of the burn at the mantle I see. The vapouriser’s got to be good and adequately jet-pricked for sure.

 

The bunson flame was not brilliant, could this be the vaporiser at fault

 

I’d be happy with that. I don’t know if you’re aware but an FL6 mantle is smaller than one for a regular Tilley lantern, a Guardsman for example. It sounds counter-intuitive perhaps but the physically smaller mantle gives a more intense light.

 

That bunsen flame looks pretty much normal to me, perhaps a bit discoloured as a result of impurities burning off but that should clear up quite quickly. Bung a 191 mantle on it and you should be away...

 

Like Presscall I also put a new one on mine (In fact his pictures made my mind up). Not a givaway price at £50 but I was very happy with the result.

Just ordered 2 new reflectors today as I have another FL6 waiting for some attention, also ordered the correct mantles too

 

I don't think you will be disappointed Darren. Where did you source them from ?

 

I’ve ordered from Kibworth DIY who have them listed on eBay, but I placed the order over the phone instead

 

When I blue flame test a burner I only put a little pressure into the tank.
