Hello forum, my Tilley lantern won't light after storage. It generates and holds pressure ok. I pre-heat as normal but upon lighting nothing happens. It doesn't flame up, just hisses. I fitted a new genuine mantle. Normally I use the 'Happy' type with the metal clip. This one has a draw string but seemed to fit. Is the mantle shape ok? Maybe sagging? Before fitting the mantle I inspected and cleaned the needle; condition seemed ok. Any help greatly received.
The sagging mantle is because the lower string is not tied onto the spigot. In the second picture, you can see it's hanging down onto the vapouiser.
I'm sorry to ask a silly question, but if it is just hissing, is there known good paraffin in the tank?
Thanks for the ideas. I poured the 2 year old paraffin out and it was cloudy and slightly green... Filled with fresh and it lit nicely with a reassuring pop. I thought paraffin lasted indefinitely. Maybe not. Just need to correctly fit a new mantle and it can be put to use. Thanks
Hello @Beagle2, Welcome to this forum. Well I guess you shouls have poured the fuel out BEFORE storage. Besides the already mentioned bad mantle fitting.
