You have been given a treasure!

It’s a Tilley KL or ML by the looks, missing its base or hanger (I’m happy to be corrected). Look at the Reference Gallery. Either way, a beauty.

I might have to come back for a visit in cooler season (if there is one )was there on electrical work with for coke oven construction in 1968 7 weeks mid Jan to Easter ,I think we had 2 or maybe 3 days that weren't 100 to 115 deg F in that time.
Nice lamp not very easy to find here, shame the glass is broken that one is not cheap!

She's a beauty for sure! If I were to get it going I'd be tempted to turn the broken globe round so it was less visible and use it as is! It seems to be in pretty good shape. Happy Days!

20190221_072045.jpg The lantern still works, i did a pressure test , all good, the mantle was still in perfect condition. Its like it was just switched off and left in the shed for decades. I looked in the gallery, i can see it in all its glory., here's a picture of it going

This is Tilley model ML93. It was sold just like this as a drop in lamp for older oil lamp type hanging frames but was also used as the lamp part of models such as KL80 and the ML96 Jacobean. ::Neil::

Moved to the Tilley gallery after positive identification, and title amended accordingly.

You can find the replacement glass for your lamp on the bay of evil.
Once in a while an original glass will show up on the bay of evil in the UK.
Wonderful lamp thank you for sharing.

    Cheers,

    Norman

    Vitrolsil?

(not sure if I've spelt that correctly) glass, there seems to have been quite a few on UK ebay recently (one a week) but they go for around £100 UK..shock horror. Its a fantastic find all the same, often fitted with the much cheaper 'onion' style glass. They did come is various guises, hanging, standing..here's mine.

Perhaps someone like Jeff could post a picture of an ML93 in all of its various guises? I can think of five offhand. Woops, that would include an FS!

Hello Jean, they are all shown in the Tilley gallery pages and the link below shows a post which may be of interest to Darryl and I have not heard of Tilley copper ML., tanks turning up in Australia, I know that Jim Dick has a copper ML., because I sent it to him many years ago.

    2, Copper ML-tanks. 2 photos

Thanks Jeff, I have a few myself but that wee one always intrigues me. Mine are all much the same size. Didn’t realise that they didn’t turn up much in Australia.

:-k Weren't these fitted with the, er, 284(?) frosted glass shade at some point. I'm guessing - I'll check for the correct part number now.

Edit: Yes, 284 globe in the 1950s:-

    1950s Tilley KL80 Victor

Much nicer than a clear onion globe... :)

Hello Jean, over the years I have obtained many ML., tanks (both copper and brass) and the copper tanks may turn up down under, but I have not heard of any, perhaps our Australian and New Zealand members can let us know.

In my experience the peerie copper ML., tank is scarce, I have obtained only two examples of it and Neil has the second one.

Hello David, that is the correct part number and it was offered with the 1950s/1960's KL-80 and the IL-47.

    1961, KL.,80.

The KL-80 was made for several decades so there are still many around and there are reproduction frames available.

I have the 284 globe on my chrome KL80 but for the life of me I can’t remember if they came together. Not sure when the chromed KL80 would date to.

Hello Jean, Tilley offered plated versions of their lamps for decades and in the 1939 catalogue a plated finish on a KL-80 cost an extra 11 shillings, which was a lot back then.
The simplest way to date your lamp is to check the depth of the control cock socket and if it's deep enough for an XN control cock then it's pre 1940.

284 David? I agree that they look much better than the onion globe so swapped.. 20190225_222451.jpg
