Tilley SDR Type2?

Hi all, we are in the process of downsizing, sadly I have to get rid of a lot of my precious junk. I bought this Tilley at a garage sale years age and as per usual I stored it away with other "treasure" I hadn't looked at it since buying it, I thought it was a run of the mill Tilley l have not cleaned it, it has just been taken out of the box. Any feedback would be appreciated, cheers from OZ.
Like my dad used when we were kids. I was surprised to find a paper tag on the side and the black cap thing inside. Included is instructions etc.

 

Well I would not "downsize" with these kind of rare lanterns.

That is a rare lantern and well worth restoring.

 

Definitely worth a clean and polish. Any chance of more pictures, especially the hood and burner set up..... there is an ongoing discussion on how the hood / burner / reflector fits together to give a satisfying burn.

Anything but run of the mill and maybe "like" but not exactly the same as what your Dad used - that was probably a fairly common (but still desirable) X246 'pork-pie'. What you have is a rather rare Tilley SDR and I think we're now of the mind that's a Mark I rather than a Mark II.

If, by that, you mean the hood top, it really needs to be replaced using a small, round-headed brass bolt and nut to re-attach it before it goes missing.

If you're not really interested in lamps and lanterns and still want or need to get rid of it, it really ought to go directly to a serious collector rather than via a junk or antique dealer. You may wish to try an on-line auction site but postage around the world may be prohibitively expensive. However, I'm sure there will be quite a few Australian collectors willing to give that a good home. Best of luck with it...

Thank you for the pictures. the drawing showing the internal workings looks as though there is a spacer between the top reflector and the hood to allow air flow to the burner tubes. Should you ever take the hood apart could you comment / photograph what you find.

Thank you @Mackburner, my SDR wouldn't run correctly with the hood as found, but I added some nuts between the hood and reflector to create an air gap and she burns better.
