    This light was used by BHP during limestone loading operations at Rapid Bay in South Australia. BHP operated the jetty at Rapid Bay from 1942 to 1981.

    I will do a separate thread on fettling this wonderful light.

    Hi Tony @Tony Press , am I correct in assuming your Tilley has an adjustable mirror so the focus can be changed from search light to flood light and vice versa?

    I know almost nothing about Tilley lamps, only having 2 X246B's and a doorstop/iron but I remember seeing a similar device at the Newark meet.

    All the best,

    Wim

    PS., I do know of the whereabouts of a Swiss container for an FL and artifacts that came with them. Rather large!

    @Wim

    My SL1 (and the other two I’ve seen, found in Australia) do not have a movable reflector. Those three are shown here:

    Three SLS (mine on left).

    @astroboy also has one (non-adjustable; found in Australia) shown here:

    I would love to see the Swiss FL container. My SL container weighs a ton.

    Cheers

    It surely is a lovely lamp and I also agree the glass reflector is an object of beauty in its own right.

    With my ladylike taste in lamps I never thought I would admire a big brute like that but I have to say it’s quite lovely!

    You’ll have to keep a sharp eye out for one. Mounted on a Tilley tripod, it might feel quite at home in the corner of the sitting room in a Scottish cottage. :lol:

    Cheers

    The corner of the sitting room is meantime occupied by an FL1 Tony. If I ever did have the luck to find an SL1 it would have to sit in a corner of John’s mancave.

    Anthony, you can see pics of my FL1 in the gallery. Kenny Connolly had one similar but sold his a few months ago. I had occasion to light it last Saturday when we had a power cut - right in the middle of Strictly Come Dancing! I was not amused I can tell you.
