Nice to have one of the Thacker Wall Lamps lamps in the Gallery. I see it's got "Tilley-owl-England" on the side of the tank and "Made in England" in a straight line on the base plate. Any evidence of a date stamp on the base plate (I can't see any)? Thanks, @John Cheers Tony
I see no date, possibly it is hiding under the label; I will have another look. I believe that Thacker imported from 1957 to 1968 or so.
Nice light. Great piece of Anglo-American history too. What I have always found odd about these is why the pump is perdendicular - in the most awkward to reach position. I always thought that they would do better at say 30 degrees one way or another
I believe it is positioned as it is so that it is sat on a table and pumped as opposed to being left hanging. Less chance of dropping or damage that way.
1952 for sure and I have read people say it was 1951. I haven't yet found evidence of 1951 but I haven't looked all that hard.
Rather like the pump on the SL hospital lamps. With the hanging bracket on the ‘top’ of the hospital lamp the pump has to be to one side. That the wall lamps and the hospital lamps didn’t share the same pump position, we have to wonder why when both were in production side by side it was decided to have the two different positions. Any thoughts anyone?
I'd say the pump position is the same on both tanks, it's the holes in the rim that will alter for the feet and handle in the case of the hospital lamp
Looks wonderful to me what's not to like about these wall lamps and I love the design as well. Sure would look fantastic and an excellent show piece on any wall.
I used to think the same but then thought that if that was the case, the pressure indicator would he higher up the side of the tank but it isn't. So; did Tilley move the pump or the pressure indicator ?
