    Hi
I have three of these lamps that were found in a loft of an old Fire Station in Suffolk that my great Auntie used to live opposite. Unfortunately, the glass broke on one of them.
I can't find any stamp marks so would this make it early 1950's and earlier?
I have not cleaned it up yet so it's very dusty and mucky, but I think they will clean up nicely.
    Thanks in advance
    John

    Welcome @John Fensom.

This variation of the Tilley X246 followed the "Pork Pie" lamps, and dates from (late) 1949 - 1954.

It's a very nice example, especially with the original hood and glass, the box, and the paperwork.

It would make a good contribution to the Reference Gallery.

    Edit: Crossed with @ROBBO55

    Best regards

    Thank you Tony
They also came with their preheater and funnel. Once I've cleaned them up I'll be happy to contribute the the reference gallery. How do I do that, please?

    An interesting provenance.

Never saw any in Lancashire fire stations, only phosphorous incendiary hand grenades left over from a WWII Home Guard stockpile in the cellar of what had formerly been our Bamber Bridge fire station.

This post has been moved to the proper section in the reference gallery, so don't start a new thread.
Just continue to post any additional pics in this topic.

Great acquisitions ! - the globe (glass) is easily replaced. They should clean up nicley with a little soap and water (not too hot or the paint can lift) The box label is interesting - the nomenclature looks almost MOD/WD - but the GPO (post office) used to use similar.

So I decided to google it and found one of its cousins - NOS Tilley X246 circa 1950-54
