I have a Tilley X246 (1950-53) lantern that I converted to a Tilley CS56 stove lookalike and it was was pulsating a bit too much and I got around to investigating it today. The pressure pip had a leak from one half and after I soldered that I discovered the central part of the pip was leaking too with some small bubbles evident whilst I was dunking it. Soldered it over. Anyway, I had noticed a leak from the lantern pump as well and presumed (without looking too closely) the pip was not seating so fixed this. Then on a final dunk test with all the other issues fixed I found this: My initial thought was couldn't be. Got a magnifying glass out and inspected it further. Changed my mind and thought I better solder it to see. The solder was not too bad but got a bit on the outer thread and had to clean it up with a small hacksaw blade. Put it all together. No leaks and the pulsating was 99% better and now running well. Most unusual. PS I may well have swapped another pump in so it may not be the original that came with the fount. Iain
