First off, hello and thank you (unknowingly).

I recently purchased a 246B off ebay and then over the last two weeks having decided that the summerhouse needed that 'tilley lamp' effect. Therefore I have now gone though the fun of fettling the lamp.

New parts - pump, control valve, vapouriser & mantle(s), to the point that the lamp has now been named triggers broom!
Feeling reallin beaten by a few bits of brass I was at breaking point until after some reading and fettling I discovered that the new pump NRV spring was just too strong to give enough pump pressure.

Stripped pump and fitted the old pump NRV spring - wow pressure - checked burner flame without mantle and boom - away we go!

    Mantle fitted - lamp working!

If it wasn't for reading all the help on here I think I'd have gone mad!

Thanks all (even if you didn't know it).

    Al

Hi Al and welcome to the forum. Good to hear you got your lantern fixed and running.
The feeling of satisfaction when an old lamp pops into life is one of those things that makes this pressure lamp malarkey so addictive for me.
I guess the only question that needs to be asked of you now is, will there be a second lamp? Beware, if there is mate for the first one, they will breed!
Put up a photo of your lamp running, the money shot, and you’ll make this gloomy day brighter for us lampies!

    Stevie

    Hi Al.
I also recently got the same off ebay - and fitted a newly purchased Tilley SP1 service kit. I did light it, it but didn't burn with the conviction I recall from my (long gone) days in the Boy Scouts. I have just refitted the old spring and now the pump sounds more like a pump. I will light it tonight and confidence is high !
So thank you to all and to you as well
    cheers
    C

A good result .. if you want to explore the " spring avenue " there are many sizes are available look on ebay
from UK/ China , I have several Tilley 246b's and often I use two softer springs inserted together
instead of 1 original spring .. they work a treat and are as cheap as chips to purchase . no worries there

Nice ‘money shot’. It’s a highly addictive game. Wait another year or two and you’ll have a dozen lanterns.....
