This lantern is branded Champion which is Champion Products, Division of the Turner Brass Works, Sycamore, Ill USA. A quite typical twin mantle Turner lantern but this one has SOR as a decal twice on the tank. I have no idea what this means but it must have been important to add it twice. I have no globe for this one but it worked pretty well after the normal fettle of cleaning the feed tubes which were of course blocked. I can't get the green paint much cleaner and I don't want to re paint the tank because of the decals. I have bead blasted the globe cage and support and then baked on a coat of Hammerite silver. ::Neil::
Hi Neil, thank you for this information. Last week I heard the first time about TURNER lamps. I collector friend visited me with his new TURNER find at ebay and after half an hour the lantern was lighting. Now I see every day new Turner lanterns Do you have some more? They are looking good
Hi Neil, Nice to see this running! There is no difference between this model and the X-159. Or is there? Which came first? Was the X-159 built for someone as was the Brooklure? Bob
More?? I only have 750 in the collection. Working my way through them though. According to my catalogue I have 6 Turner lamps including an X159. I have shown four of the lanterns now but I can't find the X159. I found the hood so somewhere in the heap there is a headless Turner I have to find. When I do find it I will be able to see which of the others it resembles. Right now I am strugling with the Brooklure stuff which is also Turner and I have a Sears Turner/PW in need of serious fettling before it will run. It is in poor shape though with a bent burner and broken pricker. Also seriously rusty although I think the tank is sound. ::Neil::
Who knows? Could be I guess. Might be some of the US guys have a better idea. We may never know but I would cetinly love to put a name to those initials. ::Neil::
