I have been looking for one of these for a while but despite living a couple of miles from the Halifax border I had to travel quite a few miles for this one courtesy of Terry. The enamel hood cap was burnt through and being unable to find an original replacement I bought a repro and sent it to @Tilleyz13 for enamelling. Unfortunately the repro was of such poor quality that it couldn’t be enamelled. Fortunately @Tilleyz13 worked his magic and solved the problem with a perfect manufactured replacement. I’ll let him tell that story if he hasn’t already. Beyond that the only other issue was the page of the Somerset Herald 1968 and two matches I found inside the fount. Someone really didn’t understand the lighting instructions! Cleared the fount, new seals, a bit of a clean and away she goes. No date stamp.
If the repro hood cap is made of steel that has too much carbon content, it'd be quite hard to be enamelled. They tend to 'blister'.
Thanks Scott, it’s in good condition as a lot of the brass tanks seem to collect dents How odd about the repro hood? Interesting about the newspaper and part of the history now… looks like the Moody Blues were in that part of the world for a night apparently :-) I see it has a pressure indicator as well.. good stuff ! regards pb
Hi Scott I’m not sure about standard but it is probably ‘right’ ? I read that they disappeared for a while during the war but reappeared nearer the end along with the brass tanks Happy to be corrected :-) cheers, pb
