    Hi there,

I picked up a Vapalux M1 Lantern in mint condition. It shows 1972 so I'm assuming this was made in 1972 and due to the OD Green this may have been a Military Lantern.

    Here's some pictures.

I goofed up on replacing the mantle but it will have to due for a while. I also replaced the preheater wick. I really like the preheater on this Vapalux because it gets the job of preheating done. With this type of preheater I don't think one would have to preheat twice even on a very cold day.

I did check all of the seals and washers and these look like someone had just replaced them.

Once the lantern was fired up and running for a while I noticed it weeping fuel from below the control cock where it attaches to the fuel tank/fount. Of course this is one area I didn't check out thoroughly. I tightened this up a bit more which stopped the leak but for safety sake I will dismantle the lantern and replace the seal there with a new viton gasket.

The stove ran very well indeed. I think the light output may have been a bit more if the mantle wasn't scrunched together but for now it still puts out quite a bit of light. I will get some night time pictures this evening.

    Cheers,

    Norman

Good looking lantern and nice to have an undamaged glass with the logo.

Nice find. It's a military type. I believe the 21C is some kind of stock number and the "crow's foot" indicates it's Ministry of Defense UK.:D/
These are among the best Kerosene lanterns around.:D
