Is a 320 lamp with a green enamel top older than those with the black top? Does anyone know the difference? I’ve just started restoring this one (photo). I struggled to light it first time. It flared and sooted up for a while before eventually succumbing to my repeated jet cleaning efforts. It still pulsates occasionally.
Nice and shiny! If you want to keep the polished brass look you might consider spraying the exposed surfaces with clear lacquer so it doesn't tarnish but steer clear of Brasso if you can. It's not very kind to the brass, which wouldn't matter on a candlestick but on a pressure vessel it can cause problems.
Ok Colin, thanks for the advice. I still have to figure out why this lamp flickers occasionally. The vap looks almost new so not sure where the problem is...
Wow, that looks so cool. You’ve done a good job. Is the light flickering or is it regularly pulsing? Cheers Pete
Hi Pete, it’s flickering occasionally. I’d say every 10-15 seconds or so. Not sure how to fix that. The money shot...
@Alex74 At least it’s not pulsing. Maybe the flickering will settle down after a tank of fuel has been used. I’ve had a lantern that flickered just after a fettle but after an hour or 2 it settled down. Cheers Pete
We’ll see. I’ll do what you say and let it burn for a few hours tomorrow evening. I’ll keep you posted!
