I’ve spent the day dusting and moving very old collections of stoves, and lamp bits...

But I know I’ve seen one of these “Coleman-like” (or early Austramax-like) alloy spirit cups before somewhere.

The interesting thing is the (?asbestos) wick string.

What lanterns/lamps have these been seen on?

    Thanks in advance.

    I shall look.

I’ve now got it my hand, so I can see its dimensions.

Yep the 242K had this type of preheater cup and also very few 249 lanterns.

    Cheers,
    Norman

As the origin has been stated in the posts above, I have in my hot little hands both the Coleman 242K and 249 that have the identical spirit cups, albeit without the asbestos wicks.

    Hi Pete,

How about a couple of money shots of both please or are they already in the gallery.

I haven’t a picture of the 249 as yet, I’ll take one today and post.

    Hi @Norman

As promised here are the shots of the 249 (Scout). This one was built in Australia, dated 6 - 54 (June 1954).

These shots were a bit rushed and do suffer a bit from early morning light effects.

@AussiePete I think I see a slit in the 247 spirit cup where the string could have been. It doesn't seem to be in the other two.

Quite right Nils, the other 2 don’t have a slit, more of an indistinct impression of an indentation if anything, quite subjective in fact.
