Just come back from a nice weekend in Whitby, with the North Yorkshire Centre of the Caravan Club, we walked into the town on Saturday on a disused railway line and enjoyed some nice views of Whitby Abbey we stopped at the busy harbour for a look at the boats We went over the swing bridge into the old part of the town We popped into Humble Pie, a 1940's themed pie and mash shop and had a very enjoyable lunch, Steak and ale Pie with mashed potatoes, mushy peas and gravy, well worth £5 in my opinion, all washed down with a proper mug of Tea. After lunch we walked onto the Pier where a terrified Ros (the one in the red) was scared in case she fell to her doom through the gaps in the wood.
Another view back up to the Abbey from the pier We had a nice night sitting outside having a beer or three, hot snacks were provided courtesy of Tilley The Bialladin Bowl fire kept our legs warm!! My mate John even brought out a Chalwn Lynx this is a garage find and was in very good condition with the correct glass, John has the ultimate job for a lamp collector, he fits and repairs garage doors. Nice company, good food, cold beer and Lamps what's not to like.
Now he tells us! - broke mine last Wednesday and it cost me £70 to have it repaired and serviced. That was at pensioner's rate, too... Could've shown him my lamps and lanterns while he was here. Anyway, looks like you had a great weekend - I like Whitby. Last time I was there we went into the Magpie fish and chip restaurant - £11.95 for f+c, but they were easily the best I've ever had, anywhere in my life. Then a trip on Elizabeth, the steam bus - lovely jubbly!
Fantastic pics! You must have had a great time. Nice to see some good old Norfolk "Colmans" mustard in the pie n mash shop! Thanks for sharing your experiences with us. Coincidentally, I have just finished reading Bram Stoker's Dracula - having never viewed Whitby Abbey before now. All the best! Jeremy
I'm Jealous too , i love Whitby & the North yorkshire Moors many happy times there , trips on the steam trains from Grosmont to Pickering 8) & the best fish & chips i had there was from the Chippy halfway up the hill in Sleights ( Just outside Whitby ) near the church , they were so good we had them three times in a week 8) Stu
I agree, Whitby is gorgeous, Some nice photos taken . I was there in July and captured this shot of an unfortunate boat looking err not too clever. Never waited round to see what happened but was certainly drawing a good ole crowd
