This doesn't really bother me but why are my posts displaying a USA flag when I'm in London, UK? Is location derived from server?

Location is derived from the server. So, for example, if you are using a VPN, or logged into a private server, the flag will show its location, not yours.

There is of course the option not to show a flag. Personally I rather see myself as a member of the world community, and this site pretty much is an exponent of that. What I do miss however is the lack of a given location or country when such is relevant to a message or question. Mike

Totally agree with that...we dont need no stinkin' flags! It does help when swapping suppliers details and trades so I guess we will live with it.

The flags are fine... and you can turn them off if you don’t like them...

Seamanjive, if you go to Home, then click on your alias which should give you access to Personal Details. It takes some studying, trial and error, but somewhere in there you can opt to show, or not to show a flag. Mike

Location has been a required field on registration for a long time. If you registered before that requirement you can add it via your profile.

Well, you just start me wondering if you are, in a figurative way that is, ha!
But as long as you can come up with the sizes of your Hasag reflector, frankly I do not care where on earth you take those measurements. Mike

For me, the location are a interesting fact to consider when it comes to where you are based, what market (fx Sweden =Swedish lantern) and also fun to know how far the lantern bug has reached.

I agree, so to that end I prefer to read where some contributor is located, instead of staring at a small colourful rectangle (flag) no matter how cute, and having to wonder where on earth that is. I understand from Ross the location with new registrations now is automaticly public, but regretfully many older members do not realise the illustrative, if not practical information thus given.

    On the matter of flags...

When I look at CPL on my iPhone in portrait, I see the poster’s: avatar, name, flag (if turned on) and status (whether a member, subscriber, moderator etc). I DO NOT see location.

When I look in landscape mode I get additional information: Joined; Messages; Location.

This is just the way the software works to optimise the view.

    Therefore, I don’t see @Jean J ’s or @M.Meijer ’s locations unless I look sideways.

    Cheers

    Tony
