    Hello everyone ..
I have a question about my Tilley x246 lamp .
I'm replacing all the seals in the lamp and after unthreading the valve and replacing the seal and re-threading the valve back into the fount I noticed it doesn't go in but only one full turn before it bottoms out . Does this seem correct or is there something wrong here ?
I took it out and I can tell the seal is making contact between the valve and fount but it just seems it should go more then that .
Thanks very much for the help .

If I understand the older Tilley system, before the cost cutting, the outer is screwed in first, but not all of teh way, then the control valve. This allows the control knob to be positioned where you want it a d not where it goes tight on the later models.

The threaded outer collar (not sure what it's actually called right now) helps you tighten the control valve down onto the fount while making sure the pricker control knob is facing the right way. It's hard to explain but by altering how much you screw the collar in, you can make sure the black knob isn't blocked by the frame or ends up being too close to the pump. If you fiddle around I'm sure you'll see what I mean.

Of course, getting this right and making sure the rubber seal is located correctly can be a bit fiddly!

Tilley called the “threaded outer collar” a Locating Bush (part 337).

Wasn't this called "clocking" the control? I remember a thread about it but I can't locate it now...

In order to make a seal, it is the control cock that needs to seat on the washer against the tank. The washer is put in place before the locating bush due to its diameter.

If the locating bush is too high in its external thread, the control cock bottoms out on its own thread before compressing the sealing washer - and you have an air leak. So, best to wind the locating bush lightly all the way in to start with - and then work it up a little if the control cock knob proves to be in an awkward position for the frame.

    Hello again everyone..
Well after a full fettle and all new seals I got my Tilley going ...BUT ..it's not burning correctly . It's very dim and I have alot of dark spots on the mantle and it just doesn't seem rite . Im just not sure what it can be ...I known it's all clean ..I also did a few heat and quench cycles to the vaporizer but it really wasn't bad .
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks ..Ernie

Is there plenty of pressure in it and have you tried agitating the control on / off quickly, or could be a blockage in the burner.

Added more pressure and that made it a little better but I'm getting alot of flames outside the mantle . I checked for blockages and everything is clear .
Could the vaporizer tip be enlarged ?
    Thanks ...Ernie

A lot of Flames outside of the mantle is usually a sign of an enlarged vaporiser hole...
