    G'day all,

    I'm sure many of you have read of Georg's plight with his arthritis in his hands. If you haven't seen the topic it is here. Have to hang it up

    I was working on a fount today, ironically, a fount of a Thomas lantern which looks to be the one in George's avatar. My mind drifted to George's predicament and I somehow came up with the following thought.

    I thought there may be enough members of CPL that have a spare part to a lamp and send the part to George. George being American may not have a Tilley. I think Tilley lamps - spares - are in most collectors piles of leftovers. The aim is, that George ends up with all the parts to a single lamp. I do understand the oxy moron of what I'd like us to achieve. George is saying he can't fettle anymore yet here we are sending him a lamp in bits for him to put together. I think that's OK. Seeing all the parts sitting there, that may be enough to pull George out of retirement.

    I'd be willing to send the largest part to George, let's say the fount, as it would cost the most to post. Most people would only have to pay a small postage because rather than someone send a whole burner or even a whole cock, I was hoping we could get enough members to send a single part of say a X246 lantern. That way, postage would be minimal and if you are sending an air tube, it isn't going to hurt our spare parts too much.

    There may be American collectors on CPL that would donate the larger parts like fount, frame and hood. If not, as I said, I'd send off the fount.

    There may not be enough members that have a spare part that they could send so some of us may have to double up or send a more complete burner.

    Has anyone ever counted how many single parts make up a X246?

    Not everyone will have a spare part or even a Tilley in their possession, no blame in that. Perhaps a Coleman CQ would be a better option because many members would have a spare to a CQ.

    I've floated the idea, I'm very happy for anyone to make suggestions from is it a viable idea and if it is, what type of lamp we can aim to ship to George 1 piece at a time.

    Thanks fellas. We can wait a week or so and see if anyone else is able to help out.

    I'd like to reiterate, I and everyone else understands not every one has spares.

    I thought it would be kinda cool seeing a lamp arrive piece by piece then being put together and fired up. Epic even.

    Has anyone thought to ask George how he would feel about it? What if he can’t put all the bits together and doesn’t have someone who would do it? I’m happy to contribute but we’d need to have a list of all bits supplied or still needed or he could end up with lots of the same. Nice thought though Matty.

    You guys show what friends really are! I do appreciate all of this. It's really not necessary, I have all I need here: my good friends and fellow collectors at CPL!
    GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
    Thank you so much for all your kind thoughts!

    Of course it isn't necessary, that's why it should be done. I do hope you allow your friends here at CPL to show support even if it is a bit unusual.

    @Jean J

    I didn't ask George because I knew the answer would be no and sometimes, for a good cause, you just do what you have to do. I have probably embarrassed George and if I have I apologise.

    Jean, I did address whether or not George would be able to assemble the lamp. You may have missed the part where George is going to try some new treatment. I'm banking that the treatment will help George enough to be able to assemble the lamp. Even if George can't, I was hoping the symbolic representation of the lamp would lift his spirits in the present and in the future, I.E. anytime he looks at the lamp even if it is disassembled, it will help lift his spirit.

    You guys are just too much!
    I'm embarrased!
    Yes, Marc sent me some hemp seed oil. I know several people here have suggested this oil. I tried it on my knee and lower back and although I am not completely out if pain, I can't believe how much relief it gave me!
    I'm going to call a pain management doctor tomorrow and make an appointment. In the meantime I will continue using the hemp seed oil and some pain meds I have on hand.
    I will keep all posted.
    Thanks to you all so much!

    @george

    Wow, that is good news. How about that @Marc what a great gesture.

    It sounds as though you are using the oil and rubbing it on. I wonder if the oil you can take orally will be better and help your whole body? You would have to check if the oil that Marc sent you can be taken orally. I know others can be.

    Yes, you can mix it with salad dressing or just dump it on the salad. I have been rubbing it on and I think it is working!
    I do appreciate everybody's thoughtful help on this.

    If we go Tilley, I have some nice EX100 or P53 or whatever they are called. I have founts for table lamps if we want to go that way. I'm prepared to polish and send the fount and can make up any shortfall on donated parts.

    You blokes might like to do another brand? George is likely to have most Coleman stuff. I'm happy to do the lamp the group chooses but I warn you, I may not have anything to contribute because I don't collect many of the more common brands or lanterns.

    @Marc George has said its not necessary, and of course it isn't. Jean expressed a similar view to you. How about I do the following.

    @george would you mind if this was organised as a show of respect to a fellow collector suffering a tough time? Just a yes thanks or no thanks, no further explanation is necessary. I didn't mean to embarrass you.

    I do appreciate you all, believe me. I have quite a few Tilleys and I don't want to seem ungrateful, but I will pass. This is hard to do without feeling ungrateful but I am really grateful. Just your support like this is all I need to cheer me up.
    I do appreciate all this very much.
    Thank you all.
