Here's what arrived in the post today, it was advertised as a 'big tilley' on a selling site - not the bay of evil . From the poor
pictures posted I could see a stand so decided to take a punt before any of you other eagle eyed people saw it. At least I was hoping that the stand would be of use for my FL6 ,I've been looking for a proper stand to complete this for years now.
Pleasantly surprised was I when I opened the box and rebuilt it to realise it's a R501 not a R55 as previously thought.
Now the dilemma I have is, do I mate the stand with my FL6 or do I keep the 501 complete? I know I could swap it between them but really wanted to complete my FL. I haven't got a 501 in my collection either, just out of curiosity common are they?

@Keith Warby That's a great find Keith, looks to in original condition too? I’d say it’s a bit of find.
As to swapping the stand over, well, only you can decide. I think I’d be tempted to keep it as is for now, or would I?.....

Depends if you want the heater on display? If not pack it away stick the Fl6 on the stand and keep an eye out for another. So long as you don’t mind the green paint, it would be a shame to strip that off if it’s original with the heater.

Of course now you have this one, you could get some tube and make another.:thumbup:

Matthew has a point, even if you ask a local metal worker to knock one up, you’ve got the template.....

Unfortunately metalworkers in this neck of the woods are like hens teeth, when I was younger i think every village had it's own blacksmith where you could get almost anything made or repaired but sadly i think most of these shops are now generic housing estates.

I've read that these came in various colours, does anyone have a list?

    My two cents?
I'd keep the R501 with the correct frame stand and have a go at duplicating /using it as a template for a welder/blacksmith.
That 501 certainly looks good as it is!

Hi @Keith Warby the stand came with the radiator so should stay with it, I don’t think the FL6 would appreciate being sat in a radiator stand.....:lol:

A friend of mine made me a floor stand and it turned out to be a lovely job - it's pictured on here somewhere. The idea was he would make them whenever the main part of his business (manufacturing metal gates, staircases etc.) went quiet. For whatever reason, only the prototype was ever made - I suspect it was probably down to cost.

I gave him an original and he reproduced it with improvements. We had at least three variations planned - welded as original, bolted i.e. demountable for easy posting and the third type was, er, can't remember now!

I had hoped to persuade him to make up some of the tripod stands - Heaven knows how much they'd have cost, though...

Once Upon a time I was going to make Al16 stands, that never happened, I didn’t even finish the prototype.](*,) Maybe one day I’ll have ago at this instead, now if only I had a prolonged period of time when I didn’t have to go to work.

I know the feeling, Matt. There's stuff I didn't manage to do my entire working life and now after seven year's retirement, I still haven't had the time. Where it goes, I've no idea...
