    Hard to tell what is original and what is not but I have one 6 x 6 inch and one 5 x 5 inch.

    Thanks Anthony, how long are the thin parts and how far down are the holes drilled for the bolt please?

    The hole for the the guard is 1 1/2 inches below the hole for the handle.

    This is the 5 inch one. The 6 inch may be a bit more practical.

    Perhaps a few other members could measure theirs.

    (Pictures are a bit ordinary. Let me know if it is not clear enough.)

    @Anthony

    That's great, thanks Anthony,

    I didn't realise they were a two piece with the top part welded to the base, not being able to weld/have access to a welder that might be a bit difficult for me to replicate.

    IMHO, not a problem - a couple of suitably sized nuts and bolts will do the job just fine... :thumbup: :D

    Thanks David, that would do it, i think i might use galvanised steel so its got some corrosion resistance too.

    I guess they would be hammered rivets?

    Yes please!

    If you haven't got any it is possible to make your own with a blowlamp, as long as they're not too big?

    That's when you need a hearth ! 8]

    I think bolts would be easier with my limited tools, experience and work space.

    :oops: When I wrote that bit about nuts and bolts there was an AL9 about a metre away. It's a shame I didn't think to look at it because, guess what? - it's rivetted... :doh:

    I expect Tilley would have used some sort of machinery/press rather than a hammer and dolly wouldn't they?

    Heatshield, underside - two flush-headed rivets.

    Heatshield top.jpg
    Heatshield top-side - two domed-over rivets...

    @David Shouksmith Nice and clear, good detail! :thumbup:

    You can see the slot for the wingnut fixing to the main upright as well, there..

    @MG .. They probably used a flypress? Set it up and do a batch at a time...the flattened side of the rivet in David's picture is where the top tool (Tup) of the flypress has landed...

    No reason why you couldn't use dollys or snaps, that's probably what i would use..if you haven't got any rivets then you could use flat headed nails? Just gives a different finish?

    @David Shouksmith

    Thanks David, i don't think i've seen the slot for the wing nut before, only a drilled hole iirc,

    @podbros

    I reckon i'll go with Davids idea of nuts and bolts as i might make a bit of a mess trying to rivet the two parts together unless i could find a domed dolly.
