    Hi I'm looking for some info on this lamp, having gained my father's lamp collection that I am slowly working my way through. I thinks it's a 1960 model from the markings on the base and has a blanking over what I assume to be a pre heater. Thanks. Not the best pic I know! 20200705_203037.jpg

    @Christopher E
    It sure is a X359 what are the numbers under the fount, which is the base should be 3 or 4 numbers + 2 letters that will give you the date and year.

    A fine Tilley X359, missing its preheater.
    360XA is as follows 360 = March 1960...... XA = ? No documented evidence to what the letters on Tilley date codes are

    Thanks for that. I can now work my way through the rest of the collection and date them! It's a shame there's no info on what the letters stand for. I think I might have a second one with a pre heater on.... somewhere at the back of the shed.

    Do my eyes deceive me or is the burner fitted with the longer spigot as fitted to the 500 series ?

    Henry.

    Either a 500 spigot or the mantle is tied around the vaporiser :-k:-k

    Yes it has a 500cp spigot fitted and I suspect a matching vaporiser. My Dad tended to upgrade them to the higher output. So only had to worry about one type of spares. He use to make the longer spigot and extenders so the original would match a 500cp.

    I would be very interested to see what vapouriser is fitted to the lantern.

    Cheers

    I'm pretty sure you wouldn't get a 500cp burner in that hood, they are large

    20200707_222135.jpg @Tony Press, here's a pic. Is there a way of telling which type is which?

    @paul m, I doubt it has a 500cp burner, from what I remember my Dad just use to change the spigot and vaporiser to increase the light output.

    @Christopher E

    That looks like a standard 300cp Tilley vapouriser to me.

    The 500cp Tilley 301 vapouriser is much larger in diameter than the 606 or 169.

    Tilley No. 301 Vapouriser (NOS)

    The jet on the 301 will also be larger than than on the 169 and 606 vapourisers.

    Cheers

    Tony

    Just been looking at the old threads concerning this, it would be the 606 500 series vaporiser for the x246 500. I didn't realise there was another 500cp model.

    The Tilley 500 series was not a 500 cp., lantern, it was an X-246-B lantern which had a longer spigot fitted to the burner, in my opinion, it was a Tilley marketing ploy.

    The proper old style 500 cp., burner and vapouriser were fitted to some of the indoor and outdoor do-nut lamps and gave an impressive amount of light.

    Just to remind everyone, there is a big difference between a Tilley lamp rated at 500 candle power and a Tilley X246 500 series.

    edit: crossed with Jeff.
