Very nice Stevie. How big is the packet ? Has anyone here actually used this? What is it anyway? Would it have a shelf life? How combustible is it? Does it still work after getting wet then dried? Were there other brands of the same stuff?
Did that come with the guardsman Stevie? I’ve never heard of this before and wonder how many CPL members have.

Hi folks, This packet came with a very original and hardly used Guardsman I picked up yesterday. The packet measures 10cms x 8cms. According to the instructions on the packet: you remove the wick from your clip pre-heater, fill to the brim with this powder and use as you would with meths. Anthony, without testing(!) I’m unable to answer some of your questions. It’ll be interesting to see what experience others have to add. Hope more information turns up. Stevie
I’m wondering at the success of this powder, perhaps it was just a flash in the pan . It obviously didn’t catch on else there would have been more references to it. Interesting none the less. Thanks for sharing @BigStevie
Is there any other mention in the CPL archive? I’ve no idea what’s in he packet and for the moment I’m loathed to open it. No doubt I’ll have to try it out at some point.
Folk were accustomed to using meths and it was readily available. I have seen adverts for that powder, but never any of the actual packets or tins. There was also pre heating paste which was in tubes, but I do not recall the brand.
I've an opened, and partially used, packet of Owlite. The stuff inside is small, soft, crumbly, off-white granules. It's possible that there was sufficient for two primes in the packet but, equally, the owner was being stingey economical and trying to get away with using as little powder as possible, which wouldn't be unknown. I decided to preserve what was left so I didn't try to light what little I have...

Hi You're right. The set is for FL6. The box is made in Denmark to the Civil Defense, and the parts are of course from GB.And there are 2 different ones Be aware that the boxes do not always contain it there is in the pictures. If you are interested, Bisgård / Nielsen also sends to GB, but I do not know what the postage is. Here is my FL6 Tom
@MYN Hey. I do not know, but it smells like alcohol tablets. Tilley did not advertise what it contained. Tom
@MYN There is for about 10-12 preheating in a bag. A teaspoon with top is plentiful. But an expensive way to turn on its tilley, alcohol is cheaper, however fun to try. Tom
It smell like the old, real, Meta tablets used to do, so my guess is that it is the same stuff as those were made of, i.e. metaldehyde which burns with a hot, blue soot free flame and leave no residues.
