Camping/collecting here in Texas I don’t see many Tilley lanterns......well today that changed. Can you non-Texans explain to a slow learner what I have here....... I’m curious if it’s dated somewhere on it ? What is the collar for ???? Anything special to look for when fettling...... Thanks for any schooling guys
Well what you have there is a X246 pork pie, 3 version I believe about 1949, a very reliable and easy to fettle lamp. Excellent first Tilley, they are made very well indeed, the collar is nothing take if off and throw it away, someone has added that part in, which I don't understand as you cannot light the lamp or preheat it. Welcome to the Tilley world my friend.
@Buggerlugs ..... I thought the collar was weird......thanks for the confirmation @John .....Yes, you speak my lingo amigo !!!
A fine restoration project and it's been fitted with Tilley Guardsman lantern pump, but in my opinion, they are better than the original pumps.
@JEFF JOHNSON, Hi Jeff can you tell me why this is your opinion please I'm interested in hearing what you have to say thanks.
I find it easier to get a grip of the Guardsman pump to tighten or loosen it. The clamp nut on the PP., pumps is very slim.
Hum ... that’s true.. I have seen quite a few porkpie pumps with chewed up clamp nuts or worn almost completely smooth
Howdy, I can rustle you up whut yet lookin fer; them express yahoo’s are gonna be tying one on around the concrete pond on Monday; they should be in yer neck of the woods Tuesday or Wednesday.
