I have aquired an Anchor 909 350cp lantern and wondered which mantle wass correct for this model and if a coleman 21 would work as I have some of them. Thanks in advance for the help.
I, the 21 might work ok as they are 300cp mantles and most lanterns do not perform at their peak performance. A more suited mantle will be the coleman 99 mantle which is a 350cp mantle. Or another mantle brand but look for the 300-400cp type where are you located?
Hello Ray, if you have a local fishing tackle shop they may well have mantles. You may find ones which are rated at 350cp., but if not, then mantles which are rated at 500cp., will do, the 350 Anchor will be able to handle them. My one could. Jeff.
Coleman 21 and 99 mantles wil be too small. Those big Chinese lanterns want big mantles so a Coleman 11 would be OK or any 350 or 500 cp mantle for a Petromax type. Most tackle shops will have Anchor or Petromax mantles but failing that have a look on eBay for Chinese lantern mantles. Plenty of them about normally. ::Neil::
Located in the uk then the Chinese type mantles will the best choice. I have used coleman 99, 350cp & 500cp mantles on these type of lanters with good results.
Welcome aboard. I use a Butterfly nr. 41 mantle 500-600 cp for my Anchor 909, works very well. /Frank.
Butterfly mantles are available at 75p each from http://www.parafinalia.biz. However I have found them to be not that bright.
I bought a bunch of Anchor mantles off EBay, and they seem to work pretty well in my 909. However, they shrink down to a teeny tiny size in use! This surprised and disappointed me a bit, as it seems to be a waste of all that lovely big lantern area. Should I try a bigger mantle, like the Coleman ones?
As long as they're number 11 (formally 1111), 21A and 99 are too small. I've found that Butterfly mantles don't shrink as much as the Anchor ones but neither brand are as big as they used to be. Or have a look at item 4/500 here Petromax Spares Price List
Thanks for the tip - I’ve just fitted and tried a Coleman 11 and it’s excellent. A much bigger mantle, and a lovely bright burn.
