That is indeed wrong burner. The burner on these should be larger.
But even the correct burner is of the stove type!
Look at the other heaters here in the Optimus heater section (where your post has been moved to), and you will see what they look like.

And of course you should have a heater dome too in order to get radiated heat. Also seen on most of the other heaters in this section.

That is a beauty Darryl, looks like it will fettle up nicely.
For the burner have a look for some numbers on it and check with the parts lists in the reference section, it might be the right one, it is the correct type of burner.
Like Carlsson says it is missing the heater dome, but a Korean eBay seller has them called a demon fire ball.
    Happy fettling.

Yes the type is right since these heaters use the principle of regular silent stove burners.
But from the looks and proportional of details, I'm quite certain that this specimen has had the original burner swapped to a standard burner for a silent stove.

Well it's not a date, as this heater model first started in the 1930s. Going by the filler cap and pump I would estimate yours to be from the second half of the 30s.

That looks to be the correct burner - now to find a heater dome..

    Very nice heater!

    Not really...
As I already said; it looks more like the smaller standard stove burner. The "bowl" that transfer the heat down to the vapourising part is wider and deeper on the correct burner.
This makes the outer cap of the silent burner sit further down in it all than what you see on this particular heater.

It's nothing strange that it has been replaced. I have seen it on several of these heaters. Regular stove burners are much easier to find afterwards, and if the heating dome has gone away at a stage, people just don't understand which kind of burner this need.

Below's an example of what the wider and deeper burner shall look like. And as you also can see, it is sort of "flanged out" more at the edge of the bowl, giving it a pointier look around the rim.
It need this sharper flange to be able to lock the heating dome in place with its two tabs and the locking screw.

Looks like @Carlsson is correct, which unfortunately means my 703f also has a stove burner.
It was still a great find though.

    Hello Darryl,
I have just had a go at running my heater and the burner is full of leaks, looks like stove burners have a hard time in heaters, hence the correct insulation dish.
    Good luck with your fettle.

@James K thank you, I haven’t been able to do much with mine at the moment, covid has stopped shipping parts for the greater while, I’m still keen to se mine going sometime in the future
