No wonder there’s a shortage of plumbing pipes!

All that work and the gauges don’t function… i think the gauges should work and surely some steam hissing would add to the overall aesthetic appeal ?

Maybe we should focus here on misused lamps. Let all the other crap be for what it is: crap.

Most of the stuff posted on here there is nothing wrong with it, its called having an imagination and putting old parts to use! Who cares if the odd pressure lamp is used there might have been major issues with it hench the adaption. You really need to find something better to do with your time than take the p$ss out of other people's work....

Sounds a bit like the Bauhaus creed... form follows function!

I think less than 5% of the general population would consider buying an unadulterated, genuine pressure lamp and leave it original, which, most wouldn't really know how to operate.
Whereas, more than 95% of them are likely to buy an "exotic" looking thing that they can actually turn on easily(electric light bulbs).
So you can actually increase the price of an item(steampunked) which looks roughly archaic and artistic while perfectly functional with the flick of a switch.

I have an X246B for that exact purpose, it will be getting electrocuted when I have time.
    Best use for one.

To be fair, I think there is a big difference between creating an electrified lantern from otherwise redundant / scrap parts for use at home and deliberately butchering / electrocuting a serviceable (and occasionally rare e.g. Petromax 882E) lamp and putting it on eBay with a ridiculously high asking price.

I think that you’ll find that the electric version of the Bialaddin @ColinG put together was made from parts that were fit for scrap only. Also he constructed the lantern as close as possible to the original design.
I will do the same with my scrap parts.
    Cheers

    Thanks guys.

As I pointed out in my electric 315 original post, I had to wait quite a few years until I realised I had enough scrap parts to put something useful together. Specifically, the tank had 6 or more stress cracks that I attempted to solder and each time I finished 'repairing' one, another one opened up until it was obvious I was on a fools errand! The hood had been dish-washed by the previous owner and had been etched a dull grey by the corrosive chemicals. Also, the red paint can be stripped if I felt like it, so nothing was irrevocably spoiled. There's no burner as none is needed and the air buttons are stuck on with glue so again, they could be taken off if needed. The frame was cleaned, resprayed and is unaltered so no damage was done. The control valve was wrecked when I got it on a wreck of a lamp, and the vaporiser had a badly enlarged jet so it really cannot be fixed.

If you've been collecting for a while, you end up with parts like this that can't be used but which you can't bring yourself to throw away. Anyway, @Rickylee I'm sure you read all this in the original post, so your snide comments and screenshots are irrelevant. This thread serves to highlight lanterns that have been ruined, sometimes beyond repair, some of them rare models which is sad, unnecesary and destructive. What I managed to do was to salvage otherwise useless parts and give them a new lease of life. I only posted about my 'creation' on CPL because I was fairly confident that it would be obvious and understood by other collectors which for the most part it was. It was pretty obviously tongue in cheek and I hoped it would make a few members laugh which it did.

@AussiePete exactly so why did he create this thread and take the piss out of other people's creations? It's just not fair especially when he's doing it himself, the lamps that the other people are making they also might be using parts that are not fit for use but them people are not on here to fight there corner, I know one member on here used to restore his lamps in an unusual colours ect and sell them on ebay but no more, why you may ask because one of his lamps was put on this pitiful thread and he most likely seen all the negative comments it recieved. Anyway I will end it there for now got things to do lol.
