Welkom Aidin, you have a very nice collection there. Thank you for showing and explanation. There must be a lot of these lamps produced. Nice to see some preserved items.

Hi Aidin. Definitely kerosene. I am not an expert on these but it is an English company and they made many different lanterns for different British railway companies ove the years.
Red coloured lights were used to signal danger or as a stop signal.

It may be a ‘tail light’ from a carriage (horse and carriage)
The originator or the modern tail lights
They first used candles in a lamp
a nice thing to have

    Thank you, everyone.
That's right of the train signal light and the construction of Britain has been around a hundred years old

Did Sherwoods make burners only or even perhaps only the ceramic part or whole lamps?

For me the lamp/lantern is a mix of parts and not a standard rail light.
First is is small, the construction doesn't look wind proof, on a fast moving object like a train it may blow out.
The shape of the windows are odd. The big round one looks original the square and smaller round one look to be added later.

Train lamps are heavy strudy weather proof object which in most case only light in one way, front/tail light. So that there is no confussion what the light tells the railway men.
The switch (box) lights have more coloured windows to show the position of the switch. They rotate with the direction of the switch position.

Sherwoods made complete lamps, but probably would sell parts as well.
    I did find this snippet:
In 1904 they were trading as Isaac Sherwood & Son Ltd., at 44-50 Granville Street, Birmingham but by 1920 they had taken over Linley & Co. of 73-75 Great Lister Street, makers of ‘American’ pattern lamps to become Sherwood-Linley. Nechells Park Works, Eliot Street, Nechells then moved to 44-50, Granville St., all in Birmingham.

Dear @aidin, yes google can show you pictures of train lamps. But as for lamp collecting and determine its origin and use, you need more. For instance how the lamp housing is made, what materials are used and the general design. The lamps you show here from google are all quite different, in this way from the one you have.

You have a nice lamp and you like it (I hope) that is the main thing.

Nice to see you back again Aidan. You've found some interesting items and I particularly like the cuckoo clock and the radio. The stove and lantern look like they are in good condition. Your home must be like a museum which is great! Thanks for showing us.
