On the other hand, this:- A Quiet Afternoon in the Cloud Cuckoo Valley | Locomotion ended up in a scrapyard for £100 after being stolen. The scrapman had the good sense to realise it wasn't actually scrap and it ended up with the Science Museum Group (SMG). It's currently on display at Locomotion where I volunteer. They even let me start it going last week - after the necessary risk assessment had been carried out, naturally... Er, which button should I press..? David, pick up the phone and start making calls? And, if lucky, make a deal directly? Mind, I am well aware this is not everybody's joy and fun. Especially if becoming the owner of this supposed stock means selling or trading the perhaps overwhelming surplus that likely will take a long time. And dealing with 'friends' can become a swamp if not a minefield. I guess I have reacted on this thread as I felt an itch, but that is more out of habit befitting my collecting years that are behind me now.
No good, Mike - I've no idea of the name or location of the scrapyard in question. I would have already, otherwise...
Yes, or PM him with such. If only to find some answers to the questions that came up from this thread sofar. I admit being intrigued. Again.
I did not read anything that might lead to a scam. All started with an interesting scenario, plus a time element - that is now beyond its logical running time. Then just irrelevant dilly-dallying, no clear invitations to (financially) participate. Seems more of a (poor) joke than serious scamming to me. Or otherwise a well meant, but poorly handled heads-up.
@Rangie You have seen photo's? Of the Tilley parts or of the camper? If the former, could you share? Mike
looked up the number, telliy iron vaps, it said so on box as well, did not look, just picked them up, have 20, dont know weather to cry or laugh
As far as I know the only vaporisers Vapalux made for Tilley lamps was the 5" 606 type. It's a while back now but I seem to remember Tilley had a period when their 606 was not available and W&B made these to fill the demand. Try one on a Tilley and if it fits the cock and burner in a Tilley 246 and is correct for length then they will be a good quality vaporiser and a very good score. ::Neil::
You can start laughing the way I see it with the odd 20 vapourisers. Especially if Neil is right in that these could be used on the far more popular X246 lamp as well. But there would be ample takers for the iron too. I apologize for my not so friendly wording when you kept me at least wondering what you intended with the initial heads-up. And I agree with some that you are ending up with this haul against the odds. So well done, and hope you will share the benefits with those in need of these items. Mike
Been wrong before and no doubt will be again. I certainly didn't know W&B had made Tilley iron vaporisers. I would check them though because that part No 3583 is for the later DN250A iron. The vaporiser part No for the earlier model DN250 is 2568 and I don't know if it will fit. I do know that neither of the iron vaporisers will fit anything other than an iron. ::Neil::
