I’m in the process of setting up an auction site in the style of BringaTrailer.com

It’s fun to go there for classic cars, and just as a hobby I thought about building similar sites for some of my other interests (like GPAs, guitars, aircraft) which I think could use such a online auction platform.

your thoughts? You can check out the work in progress link in my signature line. Love to hear your feedback, thoughts, criticism, whatever.

There are a couple of Facebook based groups for that now. One is a straight auction, the other operates as a raffle.
    THis is the raffle group

I didn't realize facebook ran auctions. Which I guess isn't a surprise for at least a couple of reasons: 1)I've never joined and never will, so I don't see what they're offering, 2) they want everything

I was thinking more along the evil and greedy side of the fence of course. About 20 years ago I heard someone say the most obvious thing that everyone should understand: "if you're not paying for it, then you are the product"

Facebook doesn't run the auctions. It's not like ebay. The groups were created to provide a venue for the group members to sell their items. There is no middleman so Facebook doesn't take a cut. I haven't used either one, but do watch what's offered up there. It's helpful to understand how something works before making a blanket criticism of it.

The blanket criticism is to facebook, which I stand by all day long.

Sounds like it's not an straight auction structure, but maybe a group that somehow "bids" in an informal way? Definitely not what I've set up, which is in the spirit of bringatrailer.com - something to check out if you're into cars.
