Hi all, I've just finished fettling this day lite 500, the previous owner used it for sea fishing as it had quite a lot of salt entrusting in every nook and cranny, I also had to replace the nrv which was broken and the cleaning needle was broken, then found a petromax needle was too small and didn't fit in the rod so I used a rod from an old anchor vapouriser which fitted in the eccentric block and took the new needle, i made the rod adjustments, put it back together and set the air gap. Mantle fitted, fuelled up and away it went , I now know why it is called day lite as it's that bright I couldn't even look at it It was still light when I took the last picture . By the way does any body know the time line of when this model was made Regards to all. Ian.
Has it got a straight (gasoline) vaporizer in it??? I retrofitted my Day Lite with a Preston loop genny.
I have a couple of Picostar's ,the Daylite twin and I like them a lot. Meyer and Niss made them in the 60's and 70's . They were made in Germany but sold here in the U.S. by a retail giant Montgomery Ward who sold them as hunting lanterns. You can find info on Daylite by searching for Picostar on the forum.
Interesting that this Day-lite lamp appears to have a lot of similarities with the Italian Solex 200C that I'm mucking about with at the mo'. Looks as if the glass might fit too... I wonder. Orright burndout... What's a 'Preston Loop Generator'?
