Hello all....hoping some CPL smart individual can put a name to the maker of this lantern. Watched it go on that auction site. Took a shot but missed but would still like to know what I was shooting at. I like them all and can't help myself. I know you all know what I mean. :) Thanks in advance. s-l1600.jpg

I've never seen a lantern like that before. Interesting.

Handle beneath the pump seems odd. Would be rather awkward to hold the weight of the lantern from that angle. Plus what's the point if you have the bail?

Odd looking animal, it looks, let’s say, very different so much so I’m tending to think like @george that it’s a “Franki”.
Now watch someone come along with its pedigree
    Cheers

I think the handle is not meant for carrying the lantern, but to keep the lantern in place while pumping (and I think it is a nice idea! ;)).

Also for me a mystery! But I don't know much about lanterns anyway.... All in all it looks to well made to be a frankie, it all "fits" to nice. Maybe a prototype?

Hmmmmmm...thanks for all of your interesting comments. When I looked at all the pictures provided by the seller it obviously had some age to it and seemed to be put together very well. If it was indeed a frankie it was a very well done frankie. I wish I had a bigger $$$BULLET$$$ to shoot at it. Ohhh well....another one that got away. So sad....
    The hunt continues.... :)

    So there are more pics?
Perhaps you could provide a link to the ended auction so we can see them all?
If it is expired, that is!

Could it have been an oil spout with tumb pump that is converted?
Then the pump shaft would have been there as well as the filler cap hole.

Im not convinced it's a Frankie as I don't recognise any of the parts... also, the tank and hood both appear to be enameled. It's not impossible to do that yourself but it makes it much less likely in my opinion. Also, if you look closely, the tank extends up into the collar! Never seen that before, not to that extent anyway... looks to be at least 10mm to me. The flared base is odd too, the mixing chamber is weird and the filler cap doesn't look like anything else... oh, and the control valve is not one I recognize... AND if that's a pricker mechanism lever above it, that's unique!

I wish I'd bought it, I reckon it would be extremely interesting to research!

For some reason it looks French... or maybe Italian. Just a thought.

It's a sweet looking little thing eh? If not very impressive. Obviously a rare bird.

I don't know what make or model it is but I like it and it seems to run quite well.

Looking at the bail, how it is connected: looks home made.
Looking at the two metal rods that hold the top: looks home made.

The hood may be enameld but it is strangly simple. With only two taps to hold it in place. I know guys who let their lamp hoods re-enameled, so that is not typical factory made.
The air tube is "nicked" not bend in a factoy made way.
The central knob has a strange metal clip on it. Looks converted from another usage.

I’m glad you asked the question. I was going to after the auction ended, but if it had been won by one of you guys I wanted to give them a chance to post pics of their prize. I bid up to a point due to its originality and not being able to identify it, but didn’t like it enough to bid for the win. Hoping someone has some info, it frustrated me for a week before the auction!
