Hi folks just purchased my first lamps, 1 x 256b and 256a looking for some advice as what to do first, have ordered seals etc but looking at both of them need refurbishment so do I get them working or refurb them first, and advice gratefully received Thanks Nick
Welcome to CPL @NickGill The seal kit might be different for the two lanterns, depending on the date of manufacture of the 246B On the bottom of the founts is a date code . What is the date code on your lanterns?
sorry mis comms I have 1 x246B and 1x246B (Purchased not yet deliverd) both Tilleys The code on the base of the x246B is 367XA not sure what these mean though Thanks Nick
Hi mate and welcome aboard, a nice couple of Tilley lamps to start with and very easy to work on. If it was me I would swap the brown hood back over to the Tilley X246A.
@NickGill Welcome to the forum, a nice brace of lanterns to cut your teeth on and plenty of knowledge here to help you do it. Regards, Jeremy
Nck, Remove the cap on the bottom of the pump to identify which seals kit you need. The 246A will probably have the non return valve (NRV) with the seal on the Left. The 246B could have either the non return valve (NRV) seal centre or the one on the right. Both the brass holders (Left and Centre) use the same flat seal and it’s available from The Fettlebox. Tilley Washer Kit - The Fettlebox The square one piece seal on the right is available from Tilley Washer set The same seals are located in the bottom of the Control Cock. All the other seals are the same.
Hi @NickGill and Welcome! Lots of good advice already I usually try to get them working first then I’m not worrying about the fuel + finger marks on the paint woes ? Good luck with the fettle
Welcome @NickGill from Queensland Australia. These are a good starting point in your collection. Be aware these buggers breed and soon you’ll be looking for more to keep them company. Enjoy. Pete
