    Greetings All

A rainy day down south here in Africa

So after a tidy up of the work space

I decided to crack on with this project

I secured on an auction #
    All movie props

Some intense bidding but I was not going to miss this

Here we are on arrival plus from the auction floor

    A little worse for wear

    Missing the t bar Burner

But the rest all looked usable

I needed to rethink my plan of attack here

This as i had no pots that the beast would fit into

    So I started in reverse

    Reflector dome was first
Some polishing creme and elbow grease
Slight heat spot but very happy with the result

    The huge pump was next
Stripped out and new viton seals all around

While stripping the fount I noticed a rattle inside

    Surprise

The magnetic fuel cock was loose and in there
Talk about a strange fishing session

Eventually I managed to get him out
    Cork was still on

More on this a little later

A visit to my mate Phill

And the t bar is on Loan till I secure one

I good deal with Phil as he gets a pump handle for his baby
Hand made by me with some Olive wood I have been keeping

My little Emco lathe came in very handy

Mike the Stove from Basecamp was glad to assist with this added to an order a few of us have put in

    For the found and head

I made up a tank of Mollasses

I takes a while in this method

    But it really works well

I also have a heater element from making up compost tea

So this is set at 30 degrees and left for a week

    Today a lite pressure wash

Why did you not remove the glass while doing the work ?
    Glass may break.

I wanted to get all loose before removing the glass

Was scared of breaking the little screws that hold the glass ring

    Greetings
    Time for an update

Managed to get the holding ring and screws loose
So the glass is safe on a shelf

The whole lot has been in a mollasses bath for a few weeks

    Sprayed off today

I am very happy with the result

    It's a beaut day today
So I might even flat the metal bits and heat up in the sun for a primer coat

    Still some elbow grease needed

    But we are getting there

It’s an interesting use of molasses .. have you used it before then?

the screws are tiny and fiddly .. sometimes the screws are different sizes.. if I clean out the screw head then a good fitting screwdriver with a nut driver it really helps but as you said then it’s to easy to shear the little bu**ers or the thread gives up and it revolves but won’t come off !
Not easy but a small gas soldering flame will heat enough to melt the paint/corrosion and loosen things

I noticed on the stand/frame (good to have :-) that it’s bolted to it ?
Originally there were 2 big wing nuts there.. you will notice a recess in the frame.. the wing nuts sat in the recess so as the frame wouldn’t fall off if you picked up the unit with them loose
There will be some photos of them on the site, I daresay

thanks it’s great to read your threads
    regards
    pb

    Hey PB

Jip Mollases is a trick I learnt when fixing old beetles and Kombis

Nice and soft on the metal
    Plus for the green guys
    Nice biodegradable stuff
    My earthworms love it

    Alas
I got sidetracked with the Argentinian

    So no primer today

Yes I do have the frame but no Wing nuts
    Will make something up

    Thanks for the comments :D/
